My old company is asking me to pay $1800

Hello,

I quit my old RBT job and had completed all my required supervision hours to sit for my exam. I only needed like 250 hours and I got them all. Before I completed my hours I signed a contract. My supervisor signed off on my monthly and final forms. They are asking I pay $1800 in 10 days. I was only with this company for 5 months. I also do not have that type of money to pay them back. I had to sign contract and unfortunately in the contract it said this:

will make best efforts to provide supervision as described herein, having a value of one-hundred and fifty ($150) dollars per hour. Seventy-five (75) hours of direct supervision are required for the stated license. Thus, the total estimated monetary value of supervision is eleven thousand, two hundred and fifty

  1. If Supervisee does not complete the Work Payback requirement, Supervisee will pay the amount owed to xxx in one lump sum within ten (10) days after Supervisee leaves xxx employment.
  2. In event of such failure and default, Supervisee also consents to xxxx providing copies of the above described documents to other agencies, employers, or potential employers, inquiring of xxx as to Supervisee's xxxx employment history and/or related documents.
  3. In event of such failure and default, Supervisee also agrees and consents to xxx taking legal action or other collection action for the remaining payment due xxx, and waives any defenses or claims. In addition to payment due xxxx, Supervisee will pay all legal expenses or other costs of collection (including collection agency, attorneys and court costs) in any xxxx attempt to collect payment. Any such action will be initiated and maintained in xxx County, New York. Supervisee waives any defense or claims related to jurisdiction, and agrees to submit to the applicable court jurisdiction and venue in xxxx County, New York and otherwise agrees that this Agreement and its enforcement are subject to applicable New York and federal law.

I think it's ridiculous that I owe them this they just seem like money hogs and I'm not sure what to do. Do I need to get a lawyer involved? I am currently not working in the field but plan on moving out to California (Im in NY) and becoming a BCBA there.
