Causal Models in AI, Automated reasoning about the world...

AI

I've had my share of doubts about the transition to ASI and AGI. I'm an ML and Data Scientist and have had my doubts actually about humanity's ability to be super intelligent.

However, the growing embrace of causal modelling, truly understanding what drives a phenomenon, has been encouraging.

So naturally I've been trying to automate these kinds of analysis with the various tools. Sort of like a windsurf for causal modelling. And, lo and behold, it's pretty good at it! It understands confounders, colliders, mediators and all quite well.

But this is the foundation of knowledge. How we know what we know is that we build internal cause and effect models. Our human ones are biased and innacurate and of course, of limited complexity. The more of these causal relationships AI understands, the more it knows about the world. And the more it knows about the levers needed to pull to effect change.

And it's doing it 24/7, at a pace and complexity that's kind of unfathomable. I'm not worried about an apocalypse, I'm hopeful that this "nuclear" level of power as relates to knowledge will be for our benefit.
