**Caption of insta post**\---- It makes me quite sad that so many people have misinterpreted my words to mean that either I don’t support my own country or I don’t condemn terrorists or I am calling out people for expressing grief after a horrendous terrorist attack. I know I don’t need to prove my patriotism, but I understand your anger so I am clarifying. This post was not about the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Like any sane citizen, I condemn the terrorist attack and unequivocally stand with India in the event of a war. When I say “think” or “reflect”, I mean it specifically in the context of whether a war must be escalated, although believe it or not, thinking is a prerequisite in all of what you say even when it’s online! Thinking may not always mean reading a lot or checking 100s of sources. It can also just mean sitting by yourself for a bit. It can take 5 minutes for you and 5 hours for someone else. In fact, a lot of you may already have exercised it way before I said anything. And when I say “read”, I mean read on the effects of a war, on who would suffer the most, on what the outcome would be, or how likely it is that we would get what we are hoping for etc- not material on how the terrorists may be right. When I say war can’t be talked about in a binary way, I don’t mean I can’t support my own country because the other side might have a point. No. I mean even my country-our country-would lose civilians, soldiers, and so much more. There are no clean wins in war. That’s why the conversation needs more care, not less. When I say “distant observers”, I don’t mean to exclude any Indian from the conversation. I just mean that any Indian seated either outside India or in places that would remain physically safe even if a war were to break out, will see war differently than someone who is at the frontline. There is a reason that the Indian government is choosing its words to be measured and precise. These are sensitive times and words are extremely powerful. If the words you are putting out have been thought through, regardless of what they might be, I don’t see why you have to feel attacked by what I am saying.
