What should I do? Exit or Stay?
LONG POST, PLEASE READ TILL END AND HELP ME OUT !
My family started an ayurvedic medicine export business. We make our own medicine (label not the manufacturing). Get the product made at plants, got them registered under our company, and also registered them to 5 western Asian countries to sell. We have an overseas partner (50% owner) who is concerned with distribution, getting leads, making up a customer base, and other things related to end customer. Our area is to get things manufactured, labelled, and exported to the end country.
Started the venture 7 years back but hasn't broken even yet. I doubt our overseas partner isn't working too well. Not generating enough traction. The portfolio (about 17 products) is great, I have tested them and recieved positive feedback from a lot of people here in India.
I'm 24 currently and the plan was to join this business after gaining about 2 years of corporate experience (my dad's wish). Now I'm not sure if we should continue with this or not. There are 3 sub families in my family that have the stake in business. So effectively my share is pretty low. But the margin is really good (80-95%).
What should I do? Should I continue? Exit our families money and start with something else? I'm really confused. I have about 1 year left before I join in. Before joining I want to make up my mind and do what's necessary.
Either start talks of expansion and taking on more responsibility by negotiating a larger share in the company, or to exit and count my losses and then start with something new.
Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
