I adopted my puppy Cecilia when I was 17 after I had a dream where both of my grandmothers came to me to tell me that I had to go to an adoption weekend and adopt a puppy, I did and there she was, and that was the beginning of our crazy adventures together, we just didn’t know it yet.

I’m 32 now, and Cil passed away last year in May. She was 14 and lived a super amazing life, which I was reminded about when I posted and I saw how she had touched so many people’s lives in the comments. She was definitely very special, I always knew she was but, to see so many comments pouring in of people who had met her and had such fond memories of her and even how she had changed a friend‘s life and I hadn’t known it all along. She wasn’t a pet. She was a family member and I know we all feel that!!

When she passed away, we were not ready, it was sudden it was out of nowhere. It was one day things were normal. She was 14 but she was still a puppy and got the zoomies and we went camping and hiking and she was so healthy and happy and adored my three children who also adored her. We grew up together, Cil and I, then my kids grew up with her too. But she had been sick for a while and just did a really good job at hiding it until she just couldn’t anymore and it was that day that we had to say goodbye.

I grieved her, I still grieve her. She was my first child. And I have three human babies so I can tell you very much that even though she didn’t come from my body, she was still my child and my best friend. We traveled across the entire United States together from literally coast to coast. So when she passed, I wasn’t ready to get another dog.

And then time passed and even with three kids running around and between the pitter patter of little people feet and shrieking of little laughter or tears, our home was still so somehow empty and quiet . So shortly after Christmas, we decided we were going to adopt a puppy and we were going to start looking around. Nothing serious I wasn’t looking to get a puppy in a certain timeframe or a certain type of puppy, but I knew I had to wait for the right one. We met a few. We went to some adoption days. We went to the pound a few times to meet different furry friends. No one felt right.

And then there was Flossi. She came in on a day where three separate litters totaling seven puppies were surrendered to the pound. They posted a picture of her brother in the next morning when they open we were some of the few first people there, but there were still three people ahead of us to meet the little boy puppy. The receptionist told us that he had a sister and no one had signed up to see her yet so we decided to meet her. And it was fate.

She’s been with us a little over 3 3/4 months now and she has absolutely come into our lives and swept us all off of our feet. Emotionally and physically(we were told she is part blue heeler). She is Spicy Cil or Saucy Cil, Cecilia reincarnate with a bit of a mouthy/nibbly streak and some attitude. But other than that, same mannerisms, she follows me the exact same way Cil did(and yes, I know I’m mom but still it’s eerily similar that my husband has even commented a couple times), she is smart in the same way, the way she carries herself, even down to looking similar in their face and eyes, but not same markings and Cecilia was a completely different puppy. But Cecilia as an adult is just like this little fluff ball running around just with an extra side of sass.

We all noticed her similarities to our other pup, but it was my husband who pointed out that he thinks that she is Cecilia reincarnate and my familiar. It’s funny how one little sentence can really get you thinking. Anyways, thanks for staying if you decided to read through all of this, and what are your thoughts? Did I have a familiar all along and did she come back to me? It sure does feel like it sometimes, a lot of times.

Can familiars reincarnate?
