Guy gave me herpes, blamed me then disappeared—wtf?

Was briefly seeing this dude. We’re both mid-late 30s. We got on great together. Then I got herpes. Told him and he initially was cool but then ghosted me.

The problem is, from the tests I got done after that, I can only have got it from him. So I messaged him and told him. He says he doesn’t have it and that his tests are negative. We both shared screenshots of our results with each other, so it doesn’t seem like either of us is lying.

He said he figured I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with him, and that that’s why he disappeared. But that doesn’t make any sense to me—if he honestly doesn’t have it, why would he think I wouldn’t want anything to do with him? And then, in the middle of this brief conversation, he ghosted me again!

I’ve been open and honest from day 1, communicated about my tests and treatment, haven’t been nasty or judgmental or rude. It’s not like I wanna marry the guy—I just wanted to leave things on respectful terms, and I cannot understand where he’s coming from. Even if he gave it to me, I couldn’t blame him—it’s not included in regular STI tests where we live, and shit happens. Am I missing something here?
