chess related gift

It’s my boyfriend’s birthday soon. He’s totally obsessed with chess and I’m thinking of getting him something chess related for his birthday, if not a whole set. I’m a student so I don’t have a lot of money, but I don’t want to get him something that looks plasticky or gimmicky.

Does anyone have any unique ideas? I’m not experienced in chess myself.
