Need advice
I was married to my ex-husband for 12 years. I was always the main breadwinner. We purchased a house during the marriage, although I paid the mortgage and it’s only in my name, according to my attorney in my state it’s marital property.
Long story short, he wanted to force me to sell the house. Not because he needed money, he just got a six figure settlements almost a seven figure settlement from an injury claim. He just wanted to hurt me, I’m not sure what kind of man would want his kids to be put out of their childhood home.
In any case, I refuse to sell, his name is not on it so I’m not required to, but I still owe him half equity. My credit is bad because of bad decisions made during her marriage, so I knew refinance wasn’t gonna be an option. And even if it was an option, the interest rates are so high. It would really put me in a bad situation.
So I decided to come up with this money on my own to pay him his half of the equity which was about $70,000. It would’ve been much more than that but we had to deduct some other things like Child Support etc.. so he’s not paying child support either because it’s deducted from the equity he’s owed.
I’ve already paid him $45,000 of this money. Now I’m struggling to come up with the other $25,000 that’s owed by the end of this month.
I’m looking for any advice on ways, I could possibly come up with this money. None of my family and friends have this kind of money to loan, and to be honest they helped me come up with that initial $45,000.
I’m just at a loss and I would really hate to have given him this much of money I could’ve held onto you only need to still have to sell it
