TWTP as a white student?

Hi!

I am an incoming freshman and I was planning on applying for STEP, the summer engineering program. However, in order to do it, you must also participate in either an international mentoring program (which I cannot do, since I am from the US) or the third world transition program, centering on issues of social justice and racism. I would totally enjoy that, but my concern is that my presence would make it weird for people--while the program description sounds totally open for everyone, the program name itself implies that it's for people from those communities to transition to college, so having someone from outside of those communities could interfere with people's comfort and the goal of the program itself. If anyone has done TWTP, did you get the sense that it would be weird for a white person to participate? Should I abandon the idea of participating in STEP?

Thanks so much!
