A War of Two Queens help!

I have enjoyed the series so far and have just finished A Shadow in the Ember. After seeing reviews of book 4 and 5 of FBAA I am not feeling massively positive to keep reading FBAA. Any advice?! Can I skim read books 4 and 5?
