SteamVR gets worse with each month - it now refuses to start while OBS being present

Question/Support

I am kinda in despair. This software is killing my nerves.

I am someone who is against updating my stuff, for a good reason: It breaks more than it helps (NVIDIA - thought me a good lesson in the past why not to upgrade the GPU drivers always to the latest - BSOD, KERNEL errors and so on).

My windows is not updating for years (Win10 ftw, screw Win11), same for GPU drivers, UEFI, OBS, Virtual Desktop, etc. you name it.

Everything is the very same, except Steam and SteamVR.

My setup IS running just fine. No lagging, no stuttering or whatever. Runs extremely stable and performant.

For like a 1-2 months, tho, SteamVR (no beta-branch version) refuses to start at all, when OBS is present with OpenVR capture plugin activated (which worked before). To be noted, SteamVR has NOT been updated. It is the very same version, as it was before all this bullshit started to happen.

No matter what, OBS has to be closed (which also freezes with SteamVR being present) / or the OpenVR capture toggled off, when SteamVR should boot up properly.

Same goes for VR-applications, which refuse to start at all, when e.g. VRCX is running at the background. This one can be rebooted after the game/application has booted up, but in case of the OBS annoyance, there is no possibility running it at all. It will simply freeze, unless SteamVR-processes are killed.

I had these issues almost a year ago for couple of months, exact same behavior, out of a sudden. Reported it to Valve, nothing has been noted at any patch about fixing it. It also got fixed by itself, and not during a SteamVR update.

And before people start to bug around with their almighty judge-hammer, VDXR based games are running perfectly fine, as they used to do, UEVR injected games are running perfectly fine. There has been no additional software installations running and injecting or overlaying anything anywhere. There has been no adjustments to NVIDIA's display driver settings (e.g. forced fast v-sync and such).

What is happening to Steam and SteamVR? Why is this POSoftware so bad? Can we please get a bluray-ish dethronement for SteamVR, please? Could people finally start using OpenXR instead of OpenVR, please, ffs?

And yes, this issue has been posted on Steam's platform, which will probably be not noticed by the 1mio-per-year-salary developers.
