how to introduce older dogs

hi everyone! for some context: i’ve recently learned my father is planning on putting his dog down. at some point over the years my dad has come to hate his dog for some unknown reason and while he claims he’s putting the dog down because of his limp (which he has had for over 5 years and can walk fine) it’s very clear to me and my sister he just doesn’t want to take care of him anymore.

if my father is willing to turn him over to me, how would i go about introduce his dog to my own? both dogs are bullies, mine is a 5 year old female (she’s spayed), his is a ~10 year old male. they met when she was a puppy and got along well but it’s been about 4/5 years since they’ve last seen each other. my dog is pretty friendly and has gotten along with every dog my mother brings into her house. on the other hand my father claims his dog is dominant but i believe it’s more from a lack of socialization.

what are they chances they’d get along and live well together? or would it be better to find a new home for him/turn him over to a shelter?

tldr: i currently have a 5 year old female bully and am looking to possibly take in my father’s dog. he is a 10 year old bully. how would i go about introducing them to see if it’s possible for them to live together? what are the chances they get along? is it better to just turn him over to a shelter?
