What do you guys think about birthdays?

Growing up, I never really saw an issue celebrating birthdays. But with social media nowadays, thanks to the likes of people like Sheikh Uthman ibn Farooq, it's become popular to say birthdays are haram for x y z reason.

From pagan festivals, to the prophet never done it( although I recall a hadith where he said he fasts on Mondays because it was the day he was born), to whatever. Even details like blowing out candles, apparently is summoning jin or something like that.

Personally, I don't view birthdays as celebrating some pagan god, nor do I see how it summons jin or communicates with them, it's just a special day just like how people celebrate independence days or world [insert whatever] day.
