Eesh! This one took a long time, no wonder why! I tried mimicking yaelokre’s art style for the first time, who knew what trying to draw pink using orange and purple using yellow was a hard thing to do! (Madoka is literally purely drawn with orange yellow and green, no other colors took place) also Keith draws texture to every clothe piece, which is insane but I’m not on that level (I’m fully convinced Keith is a spirit from another world ain’t no way a 20 something can draw like THIS. Also compose poetry and songs and write insane stories and world build this well. Yaelokre is my idol did yall get it already???)

Anyway, Yaelokre is an artist and a composer who does songs and poetry about their characters and the world they live in, Harkers are 4 creatures within the world. They are 4 concepts who were never born and shall never die, existing outside of human morals and comprehension. Doesn’t it remind you of anyone 👀

I wanted to make MadoHomu like a bit freaky married couple of two gods who don’t really understand what this whole human thing is about, and the only thing what they understand is what they really really love each other. Harkers of Yaelokre look really inhumane and weird, but I kinda didn’t have that luxury of drawing them as weird humanoid monsters in cottage core vibe (cuz i suck at drawing monsters…. I learned to draw by googling Hatsune Miku leave me alone) so I kinda had to improvise. To convey the inhumanness I decided to cut Homura’s face in half (and cuz I also really love drawing Homura a bit creepily or freakily) and give Madoka a giant hole in the chest what was blooming with roses.
The flowers part in both of them are kinda supposed to look like open wounds, I wanted for them to contrast the rest of the design so it would pop out, but don’t do it in a gore way. It’s a throwback to Madoka’s soul gem being on her chest and that one time Homu shot herself in the head. But also I really like this idea what even in death life keeps living, cuz no matter what even if your dead body is cut open you’re still a home to maggots and insects who’ll feed and keep living of you, you’re not dead you’re blooming with life. And it’s really pretty actually. Because death is just another change in existence. I often use this phrase “I have not died I’ve become something different” within the MadoHomu context but it’s not always creepy, because Madoka never died or stopped existing she was always there as something different. Just like anything in the universe, you keep existing as grass or flowers or insects or food and even if to humans it may sound disturbing or disgusting it actually is beautiful. Maybe your cut dead body will become a home to beautiful roses….
Also spider lilies are supposed to look like the burst of blood and the ribbons as the dripping blood, like it was stopped in time….. huh🤔
I really wanted to go with the whole nun thing in Homura but I also wanted to make her silhouette big, I think I kinda failed on it cuz in the first concept arts she really was a lot bigger but it kinda looked like that one “perfect yaoi” meme and then I scrapped it.
With Madoka I was really just going with how I usually draw Madokami in a very simple flowing white dress, to represent purity and the “un-shallowness” (instagram reels are frying my vocabulary) of hers, but also lots of scars to represent her suffering and sacrifices and to contrast her. Also adding ribbons as shackles to show how trapped she is cuz that’s kinda my interpretation of her character. This time I went with ballet shoes because of the whole ballet theme in Madoka (apparently not everyone knows it but Homura is supposed to be a black swan while Madoka’s dress is kinda supposed to look like a ballet one with her ribbon tied shoes. And they literally have black swanery going on. How do people not understand it….) and also I wanted for them to be tied REALLY hard and painfully, if you look closely there’s lots of marks on her legs. It’s kinda a metaphor throw metaphor, like ballet is a really really cruel and painful art, and so I kinda put it instead of the scars. It’s kind about Madoka tying herself up so much it hurts but at least she brings others joy.
And the bows on Homura are a reference to Homulily.

Kinda funny this all started because I was bored in school since none of my goats came (💔) and now I’m going to draw the whole cast like that… stay tuned ig.

Finally finished PMMM X Yaelokre (1/4) Madoka and Homura as the Harkers (read beneath for design explanations cuz there’s a lot)
