It really did get better
I (47M) have been struggling with my mental health for years. I had a faith crisis in which led me out of a high controlled religion but isolated me from my wife and kids. I was stuck in an abusive workplace relationship where my business partner/boss took advantage and manipulated me. I hit rock bottom. At points, I was heavily medicated but still found myself on the precipice and had to find help where I could. It was close and a call to the crisis line saved my life. It took almost a decade but I finally had the courage to break free from the workplace toxicity. For the past several years I have been slowly rebuilding my relationship with my family and working through our differences. I have found an amazing therapist using local resources to help offset the costs. I love myself, maybe for the first time. Cliché, I know. Folks, it can get better but it takes work and the kindness and support of others. It’s so difficult to realize you’re in an abusive relationship (especially when it’s not a romantic one) when you’re in one. Let others help you. I’m almost 50 and I’m starting my life over from almost scratch and I couldn’t be happier. There really is still so much good in this world.
TLDR: My life sucked and now it doesn’t. It was very hard but I made it through.
