Help with understanding pathology phrasing? P16 supportive of diagnosis, but which one?
31F/ HPV+ for 5 years
FINAL PATHOLOGIC DIAGNOSIS: A. ENDOCERVICAL CURETTINGS: Small detached fragments of atypical squamous epithelium, suggestive of squamous intraepithelial lesion; see note.
Note: The small detached nature of the squamous intraepithelial lesion makes definitive diagnosis difficult. An immunohistochemical stain for p16 shows a pattern supporting the diagnosis.
Does this mean that p16 is negative and supportive of the atypical cells?
Or positive and supportive of the SIL?
Why isn't it graded if positive? I thought p16 was negative they would just say atypical cells. But if it was positive, it would be possible HSIL?
Just wondering why my doctor said nothing significant was found, I would feel better repeating the biopsy in a few months. I tried to ask but they just said 90% of people clear HPV in 3 years.
