What is the Biblical definitions of Heaven and Hell?

As a protestant (American Baptist), we are really only taught about Heaven and Hell as children. Those early indoctrinations follow us throughout adulthood, and we generally carry the beliefs that Hell is fire and brimstone, and Heaven is gold lined streets where we are assigned a heavenly job. That led me to question what the actual definitions of these places are and where in the Bible these descriptions are used. Can someone help me out?
