Tips for dry conversations?

I recently signed up for Niteflirt. While it's going alright so far, I occasionally get the chat that is just dry af, and really difficult to get any sort of read in to what it is the right thing to say or what the other party wants.
How do you deal with dry conversations? Is there maybe a way you recommend starting a chat to lessen a dry outcome?
