How long should you have a therapist before asking for a bpd evaluation?
I’ve been in and out of treatment for 6 years now (hospitals, php, iop, therapists, psychiatrists, the works) I’ve suspected it’s a personality disorder, or at least something “more serious/complex” than depression for 4 years now. But I’ve only just started seeing my new therapist in February. Is this enough time for her to really establish if she thinks I’m way off mark? We’ve had about 6 sessions, and of course she has access to my previous medical records. Could asking hurt? I’m honestly just a little nervous because I feel if she shoots down the idea entirely before actually looking into it then I’m going to feel stupid for asking or like no one is ever going to take me seriously. Also I don’t want her to assume I’m malingering or trying to get attention by using an “internet buzz word.” So the question is do I bring it up at all? And if so, how should I prepare what to say beforehand?
I’m also aware she cannot be the one to diagnose me regardless. I would just need her to at least see where I’m coming from to put in a recommendation to someone who can more properly assess the situation.
