Am I Overreacting? I Broke Up With My Emotionally Unstable Girlfriend and Now I Feel Like I'm Going Crazy

❤️‍🩹 relationship

So yeah... my ex just unblocked me on WhatsApp after months of silence. No message, no explanation—just there again.

I was in a relationship with a woman who constantly gave me emotional whiplash. One minute she was telling me I didn’t love her, or that I’d leave her someday, or that I should go find someone “better.” The next, she’d accuse me of abandoning her when I gave her space. She’d cancel plans last minute, say she was too tired or her room was messy, and then guilt-trip me for not trying harder.

She’d also pull stuff like saying guys were hitting on her “just so I know she’s attractive.” She refused to let me meet her family, kept me off her socials, and once encouraged me to download a dating app—right after introducing me as her boyfriend at a party. I tried to talk to her about this, but every time I brought up how I felt, she’d threaten to leave or blame it on her insecurities.

Eventually she told me she was autistic and struggling emotionally, so I really tried to understand. I got her gifts, showed up for her, and made every effort to be patient. But whenever we had arguments or I opened up, she'd ghost me or block me.

I finally ended things over the phone. She cried and blocked me. Then she messaged me weeks later saying she missed me and that I ruined her happiness. I stupidly gave her another chance... and found out she was active on dating apps. When I called her out, she claimed it was for a friend. Then she said I used her, lied to her, and it was all because she’s insecure and autistic—then blocked me again.

Now I feel completely mentally wrecked. I cared about her. I still question if I overreacted, if I abandoned someone who needed help... or if I was just emotionally manipulated the whole time. I’m having a hard time separating what was real from what was toxic.

So... AITA or am I overreacting for walking away and feeling this messed up about it still?
