What to hope for if Villa take four points from the last two games
I know, I know, we're hoping for Villa to get over the line with wins against Spurs and United, and don't get me wrong - I think that's doable. I'm pretty confident we'll get our end of the bargain taken care of and finish the season on 69 points.
But, after a weekend when a few things went our way that I don't think we expected, I thought I'd take a look at how well we'd be set up if one of Spurs or United did manage to take a couple points off us, and what we'd need to hope for in the event that one of those wins becomes a draw.
If Villa take 4/6 points from the last two games, we'll still make the top five and qualify for the Champions League if Forest also drop points and one of the following happens:
- Arsenal lose all of their remaining games (including the Liverpool one currently in progress as I type this) with a goal difference swing of 27. (lol)
- Newcastle United lose both of their remaining games.
- Manchester City draw one of their remaining games and lose the other.
- Chelsea win one of their remaining games and lose the other.
Decided not to look at GD swings for anything other than the Arsenal one as the swing is the only way we could pass them with 67 points.
Definitely longer shots but hey, if United can shithouse something against Chelsea then things are really going to start tipping in our favour. For now, we're doing our part and getting closer. Here's hoping that continues for these last couple games.
