Is it fine to cancel this sit? Who’s in the right?

Hi all, Just wondering if people could weigh in on whether this is ok or not. So around about Feb we confirmed a sit with a HO in October for 10 days or so. About three weeks ago the HO messaged asking if it was ok to change the timeframe, asking if the trip could be a few days earlier or a few days later, and potentially extending to 14 days instead of 10. The HO said that they were wanting to see when was cheapest to fly. We said that was okay but nothing had been confirmed yet.

That was a month ago and we still haven’t heard any details about the new timeframes.

Since it seemed to us that the dates are semi flexible, we messaged them about 3 days ago asking to come a day later than planned so we could attend a trip with friends beforehand. They read the message straight away and haven’t replied since. Obviously the time is ticking for us to commit to our plans with our friends, is it bad of us to cancel on the sitter/say we are no longer available? We just feel like the HO is up in the air with the dates and we can’t finalise our own plans.

Just looking for an outsider opinion on it.
