Just a post to save for when you’re an older retiree.
I get this info from older retirees. Our TRS TDA is subject to RMD’s. That’s mandatory withdrawals from the fund at a certain age. It’s age 73 for older folks. The TRS RMD’s are seen as income and may have an affect upon your tax bracket and the amount you pay for Medicare IRMAA. The more you make, the more you pay towards Medicare. You can search for IRMAA for better understanding. I won’t go into why I’m a fan or Roth conversions, with their no RMD benefit. That’s a personal choice.
Someone asked if it matters which month that a retiree withdraws their RMD for the year. The answer was that the member should choose December 31st to maximize the interest earned if they’re in 7% fixed.
Apparently, your RMD amount is calculated from the year prior. This is why the OP in that thread asked if it mattered which month they withdrew their RMD for the year.
As I understand it, TRS will automatically cut you an RMD check once you reach RMD age. The known retirement pundit within that thread explained why it’s best to elect December 31st for the RMD check, as opposed to any other date.
See you all in your 70’s, on the pickle ball courts. I don’t play the sport, but it seems like a requirement after age 70.
