my ONE gripe with [KCD2]
i LOVEEEEEEE this game, which is very important to say when i’m about to critique it. people have complimented and praised this game to high heaven and that’s completely valid, i’ve done the same. however, i have one critique about the game, specifically the ending.
so many moments of this game were epic. i don’t like using that word because of the geeky and cringey feelings associated with it, but i feel like it fits for KCD2. the moment where Henry arrives with reinforcements for the Siege of Suchdol is one of those moments, yet you don’t really get to experience it.
the soldiers on horses running through the village and slaughtering the Prague forces is so exciting and satisfying after the trouble they’ve caused. soooo what’s my issue with it? WE DONT GET TO PLAY IT!!
now of course me saying this also shows how fun and amazing this game is because i’m asking for more gameplay, and of course i understand technical limitations, but this is the peak of the story and combat. we’ve been on the defensive for most of the story, especially this section, and now it’s finally an unfair fight in OUR favor. but we don’t really get to experience the thrill of shredding through the Prague troops. sure, henry opens the gate and fights some people up top and in the courtyard, but we’ve already done that kinda gameplay like 10 times.
following the victory, Henry kinda just talks to people and the game is over. for an ending this makes sense, but the gameplay was a tad disappointing for me. it would also be a fun “look at how strong you are now” moment that comes in most games. on top of that, this game prides itself so much on realism and being immersive, yet you don’t engage in the final battle all too much and watch like a bystander.
i was left just a tad underwhelmed by the ending, though i know Henry’s story isn’t done and they can’t make things too fantastical or over the top to be realistic.
