AIO- for getting upset my mom threw away her Mothers Day gift?

I currently live out of state for work and ordered my mom an expensive piece of jewelry ($250) from her favorite jewelry brand for Mother’s Day. I wasn’t there for her to open it but my brother was. Apparently my mom was super excited opening the parcel but her face fell once she opened it. She stated this wasn’t the exact piece of jewelry she wanted and was very disappointed. She then proceeded to say she will put the jewelry where it belongs and threw it in the trash. She texted me later on saying she was very disappointed with her gift. It wasn’t until I had been texting with my brother I found out what she said in person and that she threw it in the trash. Once I found this out I got very upset. It made me cry a little bit. I’m not very well off but saved up money and spent a lot of time researching to get my mom a nice gift for Mother’s Day. I asked her previously if there was anything specific she would like me to get her but she said she would be happy with anything from her favorite jewelry brand. I understand that not everyone has the same taste and will like every gift the receive but it’s her reaction that really upset me. Am I overreacting here? Or am I right in feeling so upset?
