Seeking Advice: Fixing a 2013 Golf 6 with a Broken Timing Belt or Buying a Citroën DS3?
Hey everyone,
I could really use some advice. My girlfriend's car, a 2013 Golf 6 (automatic, 140PS, diesel) with 220k km on the clock, recently had its timing belt snap. The mechanic recommended replacing the engine with a used one, which would cost around €3,000 (including labor). Alternatively, he offered to buy the car from us for €1,500. He also mentioned that fixing it would be worth it since the Golf could last another 5-6 years.
On the other hand, my girlfriend's sister is offering to sell us her 2013 Citroën DS3 Sport (95PS, diesel) for €6,000. This car has just 100k km but has been sitting in a garage for three years. She would take it to a mechanic first to ensure it’s roadworthy before the sale.
I'm leaning towards the Citroën because of the lower mileage, but I’m not very experienced with cars. Would it be smarter to invest in fixing the Golf, or should I go for the Citroën? What potential problems should I watch out for with a car that’s been sitting for three years?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
