Regarding the Rainey Park bench dedications
There is a notorious Queens criminal who has a bench dedicated to him, presumably by his family. This is a guy who was a spree burglar who terrorized the borough from Long Island City to Flushing, including robbing churches. This is all fairly recent history, not like back in the 90s or something. His family is entitled to their grieving and whatever positive memories of him they have, but NYC Parks taking $500 or whatever, tax deductible, and putting his name on a bench in memoriam, is disgusting.
As their website says
Share a birthday wish, honor an important community member or beloved pet, make a marriage proposal, or remember other special occasions!
Yuck
Now, I get that they don't have the ability to vet all bench adoptions to make sure the person was at least not a publicly known terrible human being, but they should redo this one because they got it wrong for the community and for Queens.
Purposly not saying the name here to avoid a witch hunt, IYKYK.
