loud acceleration! need help!
hello,
i just bought a used car a couple days ago. 2012 hyundai elantra with 173k miles. i am aware that the mileage is fairly high, but it was hard to find anything within my budget with less than that. i was also in dire need of a car.
when purchasing the car i did not go in blind. the car has a clean title with no accidents. i also had an uncle of mine who knows a lot about cars come in and look at it before purchasing. he said the car was fine from what he seen, and that it sounded good. i took a look at the vehicle history/carfax as well. it had been regularly serviced and the oil was changed pretty regularly as well. the engine was also serviced at least three times around 2017-2018. my dad also checked out the car and he said it was fine from what he saw. we also lifted the hood and there was no burning smells or anything.
yesterday when i was driving the car home I noticed that the acceleration was a bit loud. it sounds like a race car or some sports car. it also jerks a bit when I accelerate. breaks are fine. it’s just the acceleration. there are no check engine lights or any lights on the dashboard except the tire pressure light. the seller noted that there was a minor leak in the tire, but i planned to eventually replace the tires after a while. we also needed hubcaps as well, but he is sending those to my address.
the engine in this car is a 1.8L l4, and the transmission is a 6-speed automatic. could there be a problem with any of these things? i plan on using this car as a daily driver, but i want to make sure everything is good before i continue to drive it. so far there hasn’t been any other problems, just loud acceleration. i only plan on keeping this car for 1-2 years right now until I finish nursing school and/or until i can afford a car payment + insurance. buying cash was just the best option for me at the moment until i get my affairs in order.
can anyone please tell me what this issue could be and what is making my car so loud? how much would it take to get it replaced? I don’t really know anything about cars and I tried to do my best with researching and finding a decent car until i can make more money. i am a first time car owner/driver so any advice helps.
