Xolair questions and worry

Hi all. I had CindU in my 20s, it was almost exclusively cold-induced, and Zyrtec controlled them well until they went away on their own. My daughter has not been so lucky.

She develop cold-induced hives and angiodema a couple of years ago in her preteens. This year it has escalated to being easily induced by cold, heat, exercise, and even minor skin injuries. For example, she clapped at an even for a few minutes and her palms had hives for hours.

The kicker is that happened while consistently on 40 mg of Zyrtec daily. I think the Zyrtec has dampened the reaction slightly, but it’s still persistent and happens every day for one reason or another. So, her allergist is going to try Xolair.

NGL, I’m a bit of a nervous mom. I’ve read the Xolair reactions can be severe. But her allergist says they are rare. She will be given at least the first three doses in clinic with monitoring after.

Can you tell me your experiences? Were the shots worth it? Did you stay on other antihistamines while on them? Or go with just the Xolair? How did it make you feel? Did you adjust? How long did it take to work?

Thank you for helping with your first-hand experiences. She’s really nervous about the shots, too, but she’s tired of breaking out all the time for just living life.
