11/22/63
So it turns out that I just don’t have the time to sit down and read books anymore. Three kids at home, I work 50 hours a week. Just can’t do it.
I’ve tried four or five times over the last year or two to read 11/22/63 and it doesn’t ever work. I get 100-200 pages in and then can’t read for a few weeks/months, start the thing over, rinse and repeat.
So last week, I had an epiphany. “Audible”! I subscribed to Audible and bought the book on there to listen to while I’m at work!
And I gotta tell ya: this is definitely my new favorite book. Man, it’s so good. I love all of the characters, the stakes, the locales. But that ending? Picture a grown man, in his 30’s, having to escape to the bathroom of his factory job so he can cry a bit. And I’m not, as Jake Epping would say, a “crying man”. That story tore me up.
King really has earned his last name. I’ve read most of his books over the course of my life (the first being IT when I was 11 years old) and there hasn’t been a bad one yet. But would it KILL THE MAN TO WRITE A HAPPY ENDING FOR ONCE?! 😂
I ended up restarting the book. To, in a way, push the “reset button” on that world. Every time is the first time.
Thanks for reading this, if you did. I really just wanted to talk to someone about the book. And my wife, though she tries to listen and be supportive, probably doesn’t wanna hear me rambling about a story she doesn’t know and may not ever read.
