Sensory sundays

New Teacher

Hi all!

I have recently taken over Sensory Sundays from a colleague, where we host about 20 neurodiverse kids from ages 5-13. We also have 20 teenage volunteers who are all assigned to a kid, and the aim is for them to forge connections. My problem is that I am not very experienced in this area and am struggling to fin good stimulating and engaging activity ideas for them

We have a whole array of needs- some kids are hyperactive, some need quiet space and some are very tactile. We have a bouncy castle which is a big hit and a music corner, but I need a more oganized activity for the kids who are constantly running around, and we have a creative arty section that needs to be different every week. We also like to host an activity half way through for all kids who want to join to come together

Last Sunday I set up a station where they could make sensory jars, and I filled trays with shaving foam, sand and water toys for them to play with. Halfway through the kids started to get bored, so I think I need to do ore. The sessions are about an hour and a half. I've looked on Facebook and Pinterest, but the suggestions all seem similar and too simple, and more for younger children.

Any help- suggestions or directions to resources- would be so appreciated!

TLDR- I need ideas and resource advice for Sensory Sundays for slightly older neurodiverse kids.
