Warning about Dropped Items

Hoping to help someone else with this post..

I dropped about 12 items on the ground the night before going to the mines. I didn't want to chest them because I carry them with me all the time. The next day I spent in the mines and then came back and picked up my items once I cleared out my bags from the mine run. A day or so later I noticed I was missing my prized underwater helmet.

Whyyyyy.. of all the items to take from my why that? I also noticed i lost a bee house I had made but was waiting to put down to sync with my other bee house.

I had no idea you would lose items you drop. Just a warning to others who may not realize that. Keep a chest for just those items rather than dropping them overnight on the ground. Not sure why this is in the game b/c i don't think animals want these items nor do i think island residents would steal from me but now I know...
