My Boyfriend of 10 years told his mum we had broken up. He had a kid with another woman. Do I tell his mum the truth?

So, This is going to be a long read, so Apologies.

Basically I (28F) met by boyfriend of 10 years (27M) when we were 18/17. We were each others firsts, but have always lived around an hour away from each other. Our relationship survived me going to university, however around 2/3 years ago, I found out he cheated on me so we did break up for two months, before I ended up taking him back. Ever since the cheating things have been rocky, but we still met up often and spoke everyday either via text or phone. We were planning on going on holiday, planning to move in with each other in a few months, and all the things.

Last Wednesday, was the last time I heard from my boyfriend. I had been angry calling and messaging him all week, until his mum messaged me to tell me that he had passed away, in her message however she states “I know you’ve been spilt up awhile, but you spent a big chunk of your short lives together”.

We hadn’t spilt up.

I didn’t correct her, I was in shock and embarrassed that he had told his mum that we weren’t together.

To make matters worse, when I went on his mums facebook, it seems that my boyfriend had a 1 year old child?!

Now, my boyfriend is dead. I have 0 way of getting any answers, no one to be angry at, no one to scream at. And I’m writing this in complete shock of what to do.

Part of me wants to tell his mum that we were together still together, but I have no idea what bag of worms that could unleash? What if he had another long term relationship, what if he was still with the mother of this one year old?

I know I have a right to feel angry and upset and want answers, but equally my boyfriend is dead. And it feels unfair to bring up all of this to the people he left behind. Especially with a child involved.

So do I come clean to his mum? Admit we hadn’t ever broken up and try and get some answers on what the f**k I’ve missed in the past few years of my boyfriend’s apparently double life? Or do I leave it alone, go to the funeral as the “ex-girlfriend” and come to peace with the fact that the only person who I want answers from is dead.
