PCOS + Low Progesterone Success Story

Excitement!

I wanted to make a post to encourage anyone out there that may feel like they’re in a worrisome spot with a pregnancy or feel that they’ll never have a successful pregnancy because of PCOS and/or low progesterone.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2020. My periods have been pretty regular since 2021 after starting S’moo supplements, but I’ve still experienced a plethora of PCOS symptoms. I had an easy conception and successful pregnancy with my (now 18 month old) son. I had gotten off of a Skyla IUD 2 months prior when I got pregnant with him. Didn’t do a lot of bloodwork with him.

Had a chemical pregnancy in December of last year. It happened so quickly that we didn’t really get any answers. In March of this year, I found out I was pregnant again! I was NERVOUS. At 3.5 weeks, I had blood drawn. Progesterone was at 8.9. Not great. Started taking 200mg every night vaginally. At 6.5 weeks, bloodwork showed progesterone at 5.1. Continued my progesterone and added 200mg orally in the mornings. At 7 weeks, I had a scan and baby looked perfect. Heartbeat was solid.

I just hit 13 weeks. We had a scan last week and our baby GIRL was rolling around, measuring right on time, and I’ve been weaning off the progesterone as the placenta will handle the production from now on.

All of this to say, you CAN have a successful pregnancy with a PCOS diagnoses AND even with low progesterone. I didn’t have any cramping, but my corpus luteum did ache for most of the first trimester. I had a little bit of pinkish discharge sometimes, but my OB encouraged me that it could be vaginal or my cervix - friction, dryness, hormonal changes, etc.

TLDR: PCOS plus progesterone level at 8.9 at 3.5 weeks and 5.1 at 6.5 weeks after 3 weeks on 200mg supplement. Continued supplementation through 12 weeks. Healthy baby girl now 13 weeks along.
