Feedback and closure
Hey folks, applicant coming in peace and hoping to have an open discussion to drive change from both parties
I’ve been job hunting while gainfully employed for about 2 1/2 years, over this time I have had many opportunities where I made it deep into the interview process, on more then one occasion making it to the final round, only to receive an automated email from the internal recruiter that they are going with a different applicant.
Usually the email contains the same canned, boilerplate contents with no real substance or feedback for me to use in future interviews or professional development. I have requested additional feedback only to hear “it’s against our policy” or “I’m unable to provide specific feedback”
I know your jobs are hard, and I know from reading this sub that some of you have been personally burned by applicants when you provided genuine feedback, or your HM or HR explicitly instructs you not to provide feedback, but we’ve got to be better than this. As an applicant who sat through 4-6 interviews, completed take home assignments, requested time off work for in person interviews- - as an organization you owe it to a competitive applicant to tell us where we fell short, or what we can work on to make us a better applicant for the next opportunity.
I understand there are significant forces and negative experiences you all have received that prevent you from providing feedback, but my hope is some of you will fight for competitive applicants and push the status quo for a more humane and transparent rejection process
Rejection can be very healthy, cathartic, and rewarding if it provides an opportunity for growth and the chance at honest reflection
