Playing Like a Dragon / Yakuza 7 standalone - Possible & Enjoyable ?

The title pretty much sums it up.

I've seen Reggie videos on the game which really entertained me, and I have to pick up a Yakuza game at some point.

After reading a bit here and there, I've seen that Yakuza 7 is a bit disconnected from the other episodes, with callbacks but not heavily weaved. Also, I'd like to play it for the jrpg genre, contrary to the others that are beat 'em up.

However, I'm wondering if I'll really enjoy it without knowing anything about the precedent games, except for maybe one or two famous names, and if it's possible to follow the story without being overwhelmed with characters from the past doing stuff not explained here but in other games.
