Song of the Day Redux, Day 21: A Favor House Atlantic (Original Acoustic Demo)
A Favor House Atlantic - Original Acoustic Demo
Here we go! The stolen / leaked demo tracks for IKSSE3. I believe these tracks were stolen or something, which is why on Cobalt, they had a very strict policy of never mentioning or discussing them. This ain't Cobalt, so let's have fun with it. Though I believe this one was legitimately released on the NWFT bonus DVD.
The Content: It's AFHA, no doubt, but some of the lyrics are different, which changes the whole tone of the song from the upbeat yet pessimistic song we know from the album to an upbeat victory song. Instead of "the end of us all" we have "our victory song." I'm not sure who's winning in this case. It sounds like in the original concept, Claudio and gang win the battle at House Atlantic. Or perhaps they earnestly think they're going to win and don't, as indicated by the new final verse. He likely changed the lyrics as the concept evolved, but it's fun to think about what the concept might have been.
The Music: Pretty much the same! The iconic intro riff is absent, replaced by the chords, but aside from that, you can really see the entire song. Claudio's muted chords mirror the drum hits, which is pretty damn incredible. In true Claudio demo form, he doubles and triples up his vocals for harmonies on pretty much every lyric.
The Differences:
- "The end of us all" ==> "Our victory song"
- "You want to kill me in the edge of what could maybe save us from sleep and what we are" ==> "You want to kill me, now, I can sense you're angry. Let's leave as friends and bid farewell."
- Second instance of "good eye, sniper" ==> "Nice try, liar"
- "Face step let down" is always "Face step steps down"
- The final repetition of the segment starting with "The words you scribbled on the walls" is instead replaced by a different set of lyrics ("In the words we've brought it up before, in the lack of blood you fall short. Could this be the press of that that weighs on my life's end, please sing, the words to my once dear victory song.")
The Part: The way Claudio sings "on my life's end" and the original lyrics in general. I think I prefer the way the original lyrics are more varied, but they were altered to fit the concept better, so it's understandable.
Your eyes tell the stories
Of a day you wish you could
Recall the moments that once have
Retract the footsteps
That brought us to this favor
I wouldn't ask this of you
Good eye, sniper
I'll shoot, you run
The words you scribbled on the walls
The loss of friends you didn't have
I'll call you when the time is right
Are you in, are you out
For them all to know our victory song?
Run quick they're behind us
Didn't think we'd ever make it
This close to safety in one piece
You want to kill me
Now, I can sense you're angry
Let's leave as friends and bid farewell
Nice try, liar
Now I'll shoot, you run
The words you scribbled on the walls
The loss of friends you didn't have
I'll call you when the time is right
Are you in, are you out
For them all to know our victory song?
Bye bye beautiful
Don't bother to write
Disturbed by your words
And they're calling all cars
Face step steps down, face step steps down
In the words we've brought it up before
In the lack of blood you fall short.
Could this be the press of that that weighs
On my life's end, please sing,
The words to my once dear victory song.
Bye bye beautiful
Don't bother to write
Disturbed by your words
And they're calling all cars
Face step steps down, face step steps down
