A Tiny Trick to Quiet Those Pesky Imposter Thoughts
So, I just started this new job and gotta admit, imposter syndrome hit me hard. I'd find myself questioning if I really deserved to be there, if I was smart enough, if I'd last longer than a week... all the fun stuff our brains are so kind to throw at us, right? 🙃
Anyway, I figured if these thoughts could pop up without any real reason, maybe I could counter them with equally unproven positive ones. Every morning, I gave myself a little pep talk: "Hey, you wouldn't be here if you weren't capable. Remember that time you nailed that project? You've got this." Cheesy? Absolutely. But honestly, it started to help.
I guess it's like creating a tiny positive echo chamber for myself. I don’t always believe it 100%, but it kinda quiets the noise and lets me focus on the work I really enjoy doing (like the time I realized I've got a knack for fun presentations). And hey, the more I remind myself, the easier it gets.
So yeah, just a little thought experiment that made a difference. Anyone else have small tips for tackling imposter syndrome? Would love to hear them!
