How do many Norwegian digital nomads navigate the National Insurance Scheme (Folketrygden) when traveling abroad?

Especially when not knowing for how long they might be in any geographic location? Is it optional to opt out of it altogether as I never opted in. And maybe that would be unwise? Are other people finding it easy to navigate?
