On this day in May 1948, the King of Egypt finally intervened against Zionist gangs in Palestine out of fear of Jordanian and Israeli expansionism. This started a chain reaction which effectively forced Egypt's allies and rivals to also intervene. The Nakba had been ongoing for nearly six months.
