[CO] Do I have any grounds for a civil suit?

Colorado

My wife was out on a walk a few days ago with our two young children. She came across a cat that she recognized from a missing animal poster in the neighborhood. The cat was friendly, walked up to my wife and allowed her to be picked up. She started to walk towards the house to deliver the missing cat.

On the way, a group of adults walking a large breed dog started approaching. My wife walked further into the grass along the sidewalk to avoid them but for some reason the group continued towards her. As they were passing each other the dog lunged at my wife, didn’t make contact but it was enough to terrify the cat who flipped out and in a scramble to get away clawed my wife’s face up. She was left with a huge gash across her forehead and holding her eye that in the moment she believed to have been removed from the socket. In the moment she was blind.

These people didn’t check on her, didn’t even stop or say anything and just continued on their walk leaving my wife bleeding in the grass with 2 children. Luckily a Good Samaritan in the area saw her and came to help. She had to go to urgent care and has seen multiple doctors and by some shear amount of luck it looks like she’ll make a full recovery. However, the trauma for her and my kids stands, along with a month or so healing process along with still waiting so see if she will regain her full vision.

I’m livid, furious beyond belief. We live in a good area, everyone is usually friendly and neighborly and knowing these people caused a chain reaction in this injury and just walked off has my blood boiling. I could understand one of them removing the dog from the situation but no other people in their group even had the decency to check on her.

More than anything I want to expose this abhorrent behavior by them but I’m also unsure if I have any case for a civil suit against them. I know the breed of dog and pretty sure my wife or children could identify them if and when we see them back out in the neighborhood. Do I have any legal recourse at all that would make it even worth speaking to a lawyer?
