Are there loot crates in every cave?

So I'm a new player, got my base all set up, a pack of raptors and a pteradon. Figured I'd give my first cave a try, lower south cave on The Island. I got the artifact but didn't find any kind of crate or chest. Did I miss it? Are the loot tables referring to the drops from enemies? Or are they only in certain caves?
