Another ending post and debate hehe 🙃 here are my thoughts!
I’m on the side of not loving the ending but not hating it either. I’m in the content camp because there were moments that made me happy/sad/nostalgic etc. I like that they set up Luke to be a part of the resistance in an attempt to give his character his own path, and liked seeing Emily as well. I think seeing June’s mom tell her how proud of her she is, and that she is a good mom for fighting the good fight is a big and important element not being discussed enough. June grew in ways that before Gilead would have been incomprehensible for her prior to the events of the show.
I think I’d like a clearer setup for the testaments with Aunt Lydia but idk what that could be. Perhaps a scene with Tuello setting up sort of exchange of documents?
A lot of people seem to get lost that this is June’s story and some of the elements that we all desired to see happen, simply couldn’t happen if it’s to be true to what June knows happened.
The last thing I’d say is there are a ton of shows that had great endings such as breaking bad or better call saul. Another genre but I liked the friends ending. I think the truth is that there are elements of this show that are great but it is not necessarily on the all time drama list for me. It fell off from the fear it invoked in the beginning. It reminds me sort of how LOST was so mysterious at the beginning but by the end there are so many theories on what’s going on you can’t satisfy the whole audience no matter the direction.
It’s not that the handsmaids tale became a bad show, just a ton of moving pieces that ultimately ended in a way that wasn’t intended to be happy and a ton of events that were incoherent all season long. That did suck… It was never going to be a happy ending. The last season could have been more realistic and believable that is for damm sure !!
