Roaches in my apartment complex

I absolutely hate bugs and have never lived with a problem like this. I’m 21 living on my own and this winter has been just fine, no issues. This week i step outside, more and more roaches on the sidewalk each day. It’s soo disgusting and creeps me out. And the worst part, I live on the first floor in the basement area, right next to the back door. There’s a gap under the door so I know it’s inevitable.

I have 2 cats and I’ve only found just a couple dead roaches in my home. I love my exterminators but I’m also worried about possible diseases or bacteria. I’m not sure if they eat part of them or just play with them since it only happens while im away.

If anyone has advice on how to keep these guys away lmk.
