This exact problem almost happened at the beginning of the faith until The Apostles met together and The Holy Spirit through Peter declared that this exact way is not what we are supposed to follow. Rather there is a freedom in Jesus Christ and this path you are on is actually even referred to directly in sound doctrine as tempting God. Peace be with you. I write this only to edify as I have been searching for scripture that proves one or the other to be correct. This is not following Jesus. If you do not believe me go read it in the scripture that I just provided. Galatians 5 even further explain it.
