What's the cultural attitude toward swearing in China?

Society | 人文社会🏙️

I'm Armenian (from a small country in the Caucasus, between Turkey and Iran), and one of the biggest cultural shocks for me when learning English was how much people curse! We swear in Armenian too, but it's considered very rude to do it in front of women or children. (As a man, I’m honestly not even sure if women swear much when we’re not around.)

In contrast, it seems like Americans curse constantly, whether they’re around parents, kids, or women (at least that’s what R-rated movies suggest).

So I’m curious: what’s the attitude toward swearing in China or in Chinese culture? Is it common? Is it considered rude in front of women or elders?
