Ready to quit but terrified of the nights.

I’m not an all-day drinker but I drink 3-6 drinks per night plus cannabis and a couple of cigarettes. One of the major reasons that this habit got going (or how I talked myself into it) was that I have a hell of a time sleeping and staying asleep. A racing mind from ADHD that wasn’t diagnosed until I was in my forties certainly doesn’t help.

But, a recent doctor visit showed me having wildly high blood pressure, and I can point a straight line to that from the booze, cigarettes, and all the crap I eat from the weed munchies. So, it’s time.

I’m leaving for a summer job a week from today, and it would make for a good place to take the leap (if for no other reason than there are no bars or liquor stores within easy walking distance). I’m absolutely terrified of the nights, though. When I’m awake in the middle of the night, my mind races and sticks to the worst possible things to think about, and then I’m even farther from sleep. I already take melatonin and don’t plan to stop that, at least at first. I also listen to audiobooks to try to distract my brain, which sometimes helps.

Tips? Ideas? Commiseration? I’m trying to have some kind of plan so that I can’t use this as a reason not to quit. IWNDWYNS (I will not drink with you next Sunday.)
