Is Warren Buffett still a value investor?
I've been wondering if Buffett's recent plays — Occidental Petroleum and Sirius XM — are really in line with classic value investing principles.
Occidental Petroleum: Oil is a sunset industry. Electrification is growing fast. This doesn't feel like a long-term "buy and hold forever" business.
Sirius XM: Losing subscribers, declining relevance in a streaming world. Again — not exactly future-proof.
These feel more like short- to mid-term bets on cash flow or mispricing, not long-term compounders. Is Buffett adapting his strategy, or are these exceptions that prove the rule?
Would love to hear how others see this.
