The Field Where I Found Him
Azrael walked up the steps to his house, school had just ended, and he'd walked home. His mom was gone working like usual, he opened the door and walked into his house. He walked in his room then turned on his cd player, he picked a cd from his collection and put it in the cd player, he sat on his bed. Azrael, went by Azure for short he had a tannish skin tone, with grey eyes and short hair with a muted blue color. He wore a black and grey striped jacket, with a black shirt and a dog tag chain.
He had just moved from Arizona to this town, Mallow grove. He had made friends with one person, Eric. Eric was 16, the same age as Azure, he was tall, he had brown eyes and short black hair with blonde highlights, he also wore a bunch of accessories. It was winter, and Christmas break had just started. Around where he lived there was a lot of field area for crops and farmland.
He'd been wanting to explore around but kept forgetting to. Azure usually spent his days listening to music, drawing and playing his guitar. Sometimes he played video games, but he didn't find them all that interesting.
CHRISTMAS EVE
Azure sat in his living room, his mom was cooking food, later his other family would come. He was dreading it, seeing all his family, he always stood out in his family. He never felt like he belonged, he looked out the window. He wanted to go outside, but his mom would probably be mad if he did. "Azrael, come help me set this up." His mom said stopping his train of thought.
"Oh, okay," he turned to look at his mom.
His mom looked at him, "is that what you're going to wear?"
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" He asked confused.
His mom started in an angry tone, "Can you just wear something normal for once? God, I don't want our family to see you wearing black nail polish and eyeliner! You look ridiculous like that!"
Azure sat there a bit stunned he hadn't known his mom hated his style so much, he felt upset about her outburst without thinking he murmured, "If I was with dad, he would've let me wear what I want."
"What was that?" she said fiercely and turned back at him.
He glared at her angrily, "Then we wouldn't have had to move here! And we could've stayed in Arizona!" He said upset.
"It's not like I wanted to move here either Azrael! We moved here for you, because I wanted you to have a better life then in that horrible town!" She yelled.
"I never wanted this, I never wanted to move to this shitty town!" He yelled back. Before he gave her a chance to respond he stormed out, he couldn't be there any longer. He ran, he had no idea where to go. He felt like he was suffocating there, every second more he spent in that house. He'd give anything to just go back to how things were, back to Arizona, back with his dad, back when he was happy.
He stopped, his throat stung, and tears wouldn't stop going down his face. He looked around to realize he was next to a field and in the parking lot of a church. He rubbed his eyes, gasping he felt so upset like he couldn't breathe. He fell down in the snow, his jeans starting to get wet. He just wanted everyone to disappear. He didn't want to be here anymore. He scratched at his throat, he couldn't stop his thoughts, he could feel himself start to shake, he didn't want anyone to see him like this.
He tried to calm down, but it didn't help. He tried to breathe normally but it only came out in short gasps, he was to consumed in his thoughts. CRASH! He looked behind him at the direction of the sound, it had come from the huge field, there was a forest at the end of it. He stood up, he felt like he needed to go in the field. The entire field was surrounded by a barbed fence, but there was a gate left open, he felt like it had opened just for him.
He walked through the gate, and right as he stepped into the field, he got a huge headache, and he felt lightheaded. He kept going further in the field, despite the headache, he just felt like he had to, like it was calling to him. He froze, suddenly he heard his phone go off. He blinked and the sky was extremely dark. What the fuck? He could've sworn it was the middle of the day.
He picked up his phone, holy shit it was 10 pm! No way it had been that long? It felt like it had been less than an hour. He checked his phone he had a bunch of missed calls from his mom. Suddenly the cold hit him, he started shivering, and he realized his pants were still wet from earlier. He looked at his phone and clicked the missed call from his mom, before it could even start to ring his phone turned black and the no battery symbol popped up, fuck. He realized he was still in the field; he gave one last glance at the forest before leaving.
It was extremely cold he just wanted to back home; he looked around to try and remember his way back home. But he had no clue, he was to upset before to look clearly where he was going. Fuck how the hell was he going to find his way back? The only thing he could think of was to knock on someone's door and ask the way back to his house. He sighed and walked to the neighborhood next to the field, he knocked on the door of the nearest house.
no response, he tried a few more houses until someone finally answered. The door opened and a woman answered she had long curly blonde hair and pale skin. "Yeah?" She asked.
"Uhh... sorry to bother you ma'am but do you know the way to Hind Passage from here?" He asked.
"Uhm that's about an hour walk from here, I think its sorta next to that water tower." She said pointing to a red water tower that looked very far away and with how dark it was he could barely see it.
"Thanks..." He said quietly his heart dropped, an hour away? He was already so cold, his mom will kill him when he gets home. He started walking towards the water tower, as dread filled him. It was a horrible walk home, it was pitch black, he felt extremely paranoid, and was freezing. He was terrified to get home; he'd definitely get grounded.
How would he even explain where he had gone for long? He didn't even understand what had happened in the field himself, he could make no sense of it, it just didn't make any sense. After what seemed like an eternity, he made it to the Water Tower, he looked around for anything familiar. He started walking in a random direction and luckily, he found the street his house was on. He'd never felt so happy, his feet hurt, he was freezing, all he wanted to do was lay in his bed.
His happiness was soon replaced with dread at how mad his mom would be, he reached the door and opened it. All his family was sitting in the Livingroom, they all looked at him.
"Where the hell were you?" His mom asked touching his shoulder. "You're so cold" she said worriedly. He felt like he couldn't speak he had no idea what to say, no way he could say what really happened she'd never believe him. He just blanky looked at her, she grabbed him a blanket and put it around him.
"I'm tired, can I go to my room...?" He managed to say.
She stared at him for a moment before answering, "Okay." He walked to his room and sat on his bed. He plugged his phone in and looked out the window. His phone turned on and he had a couple messages from Eric, reading, "Azure? Your mom asked if you were at my house and that you had just left. Where are you?" He texted Eric, "I'm okay, I'll explain tomorrow but do you know anything about the field next to the church on Fletcher Road?" He typed remembering the sign in the neighborhood saying the street name.
He'd immediately get a text back from Eric, "Okay... also yeah that's where a boy named Varian lives, there's rumors that he killed his siblings and his parents went insane or something." Azure looked at the message, that's insane is it true? That freaked him out, but it didn't really explain the weird experience he had there. He was extremely tired, He laid down in his bed, closed his eyes, and went to bed.
