Using ATMs to withdraw pesos

Will be going on a trip to Mexico soon and I have seen suggestions to use Santander and other bank’s atms to pull pesos out usually at the airport once I land, but I don’t have a Santander or other Mexican bank accounts. Is having accounts with certain U.S. banks that will allow you to pull money out? And is this done with a debit card straight from your checking account? TIA.
